The prestigious State delicious. Produce Award winners have been announced with Richard Gunner’s Fine Meats / Feast! Fine Foods making the grade in the category of ‘From the Paddock’ with the highly acclaimed Willock Park English Longhorn beef. The beef will now go on to represent the state in the National awards next month.

Having imported embryos from the UK to breed Australians only herd of production English Longhorns, the winning beef has had wide-spread interest from chefs, producers and foodies alike.
The breed has been hailed as producing the “best tasting beef in the world” by some of the most respected names in the business including Heston Blumenthal and Jock Zonfrillo.
Richard and Liz Gunner began their journey to re-introduce the breed to Australia in 2009 before they were finally able to import the first embryos from the UK in 2011. 9 years later the hard work and commitment to the project is paying off.
This award confirms what South Australian entrepreneur and owner of Feast! Fine Foods, Richard Gunner, knew when he took his first bite and started the journey back in 2009 to build Australia’s only herd of the prized breed.
The award-winning beef gets treated to 28 days of dry-aging time in the Gunner’s custom-built Himalayan salt room with the salt bricks drawing moisture from the beef and intensifying its flavour.
“English Longhorns are all about taste” said Gunner “there’s no messing around, it’s an absolute must for anyone who loves a good steak” though he warns that you may never be able to go back to your former ways. “It’s the type of eating-experience that can really spark the beginning of your own personal journey into the different breeds, cuts and qualities of beef, it can become an obsession” he laughs.
